Female friendship

Dear reader,

Last week was the week in the name of girl's talk. It feels rare and sacred these days to catch up with my girlfriends. Life shifts gears sometime after leaving school and suddenly it’s harder to find time to meet. I'm sure you know the feeling as well. We’re all spinning in different directions, calendars packed like overstuffed carry-ons, always promising “soon” or “next week,” and suddenly it’s been months.

But last week, we made it happen. There’s something about sitting across from the women who know your every phase and haircut that resets your nervous system. We’ve shared lunches between busy workdays, cappuccinos far too late in the day (bad for sleep, but good for the soul), and stories from lives that seem to be moving at 100 km/h.

We carry so much—jobs, layoffs, breakups, beginnings, book clubs, dreams of the future—and when we meet, we get to set it all down for a while. So this is your sign to make space in you calendar for the women in your life.
