Caring for winter clothes

Dear reader,

Entering this winter I made a promise to myself not to start longing for spring in late January but to accept that we are still in the midst of winter. So far so good I would say.

Our winter wardrobe is working very hard this time of year so it deserves some extra care. I've collected a few quick tips on caring for your winter clothes to make them last for several winters.

  • Fold your knitted jumpers don't hang them. The hanger might make them lose their shape.

  • Make sure to brush off any dirt or salt from your shoes. Shoes are extra vulnerable to slush of the winter season so, make sure to brush off the dirt to avoid any lingering stains.

  • Please don't hang your wool coats close to a heat source to dry them. If you've been caught in a downpour, it might be tempting to put them close to a radiator, for example, but this can make them shrink.

  • Air out your base layers. Airing out our base layers is extra important during wintertime since they are closest to our body and packed under all our woolly layers. Hence, make sure that they get a chance to breathe in between wears.

  • Use a clothing brush to brush away any fluff or dirt from your outerwear. If you have a stubborn stain, try spot cleaning before you throw it in the wash. I have found that Baby wipes are great stain removers. Give it a try before you wash your jackets and coats.
