The Winter Solstice
Perhaps you did not know, but today is the Winter Solstice. The Winter Solstice occurs once a year (around December 21st in the Northern Hemisphere). This is the shortest day and longest night of the year and after the Winter Solstice, the days begin to lengthen and the nights shorten. The Winter Solstice has been celebrated by various people groups since ancient times and is often linked to a variety of religious practices.
I would not say that I celebrate the winter solstice but I like to take this time to prepare for Christmas. Also, this is often the time when M and I have a small Christmas celebration before we leave to celebrate the Christmas holiday with our respective families. But for me it is a time to reflect by journaling, creating some homemade Christmas decor (for example orange garlands) and lighting a lot of candles to fight the darkness that surrounds us here in the North. Most importantly it is a way to remember that Christmas is not about things or excess but about the ones you love and your experiences together.
I will take time off from updating this blog and be back in January again! Take Care and have a lovely Christmas and New Years.
