Textile care: Cashmere
Cashmere is wool from cashmere goats. It is considered an exclusive material since it's made from the soft winter fur the goats shed once a year. Like other wool, it's self-cleaning and hence, does not require frequent cleaning. A tip is to let it air outside to make it feel fresh again.
With rising demand for cashmere, you need to be observant of the quality of the fabric. Always read the label. Some items are marketed as cashmere even though they only contain a few percentages of cashmere wool. Something to look out for is that cashmere is very soft and shouldn't itch also if there is a lot of pilling and no shine to the fabric. However, some pilling will occur over time and you can remove it with a cashmere comb.
How to care for cashmere
As mentioned, it is a good idea to air out your cashmere pieces and only wash them if necessary. You can always try to spot clean if it's just a small stain. When it comes to washing, to make cashmere last as long as possible, it's a good idea to use special laundry detergent suited for delicate fabrics. Wash it by hand or at low temperatures, preferably not above 30ºC, and not over 800 revolutions per minute.
