Care for your stockings
As autumn approaches I’m digging out my stockings for colder temperatures and now we are deep into the winter. If you every owned a pair of nylon stockings you probably know how delicate they can be and I have definitely gone through a few pairs before I learned to properly care for them:
Before using the stockings for the first time, give them a little stretch. This will give them a longer life. You could also stretch them a bit after every wash.
Speaking of washing, do not wash your stockings more than necessary. I always hand wash my stockings in cold water and then let them air dry. Never use fabric softener or the dryer for your stockings.
Wear with care. Before putting them on check your nails and remove all jewellery that could potentially get stuck in the stocking and tear it.
When putting your stockings on use the rolling technique where you roll up the stocking one leg at the time. First you roll the both stockings up to the knees, one at the time and then up the rest of your leg, one at the time. I remember my mom showing me this technique when I was a kid and it’s really good.
Store them properly and make sure they are separated from things that could potentially tear them such as bra hooks. All my stockings are from Swedish stocking and I store them in the packaging they came in.
