My Morning Ritual

Needless to say, this pandemic has really done a number on my mental health. And, I’m probably not alone. I haven’t found much to improve my wellbeing but one thing that helps me get up in the morning is my morning ritual. So, after I’ve had some coffee in with M I sit down to set the tone for the day.

The first thing I do is that I start with meditation. I have been meditating for some years now but always more or less consistently. Now, I meditate every day and I use the headspace app to keep me on track. I have tried a few meditation apps but I haven’t found one that I like as much as headspace. I currently have the premium version but they have a lot of free meditations as well. It is also possible to find meditation practices on youtube or just set a timer on your phone.

The second part consists of a few steps. I have borrowed this from A small wardrobe and it’s called a Mindset journal and it is a notebook that I use to answer a few questions to check in with myself and get a direction for the day. My looks like this:

  • How am I feeling today?

  • How do I want to feel today?

  • What can I do to steer the day to that direction?

  • For this to be a good day I will (eg. take a walk, speak to a friend. I usually write three things,)

  • Todays goal (which might be work related or a task on my to-do list. I only write one thing)

Sometimes I end with an affirmation but that is just when I feel like it would add value to my mindset. At the end of the day I also write down three things that was good during the day.
