How I shop
Dear reader,
Having the habit of shopping mindfully lies close to my heart. It's a fact that we need to consume fewer newly produced resources if we're going to be able to live within the planetary boundaries. However, shopping mindfully is also about not filling my home with clutter. So, today I wanted to share my mindful shopping habits that I try to stick to.
I have a wishlist that I update when I want something new and that I check before buying something. It’s a good reminder that if I choose to buy something that’s not on the list it will take me longer before I’ll be able to buy what’s on the list.
Speaking of my wishlist, I also write the date when I added a thing to my, because if I have something on my there that has been there a long time it’s either very expensive and I need to save to it or maybe I’m not as keen on buying that thing anymore. In the latter case I remove it.
Trying clothes on before buying. This is mostly because the gap between seeing something and buying it becomes bigger when I need to go to a physical store compared to just buy it online. There is also a good chance that I won’t end up buying it at all.
Don’t buy anything for my imaginary self. Christina talks a lot about this!
I try to buy most things second hand and especially when it comes to clothes I tend to browse a lot and buy rarely. I live close to many second hand shops so, this it’s possible for me to just pass by a shop on my way home from work but I know this is not possible for everyone.
