Wardrobe Essentials: The Shirt
The history of the shirt starts early but at that time it was mainly used as an undergarment. It wasn’t until around the 1920 that the shirt had stepped out from the underwear drawer and in to the modern woman’s wardrobe as a contemporary piece.
A white shirt is a staple in my wardrobe and I think it’s the perfect piece of clothing for almost every occasion since you can both dress it up or down. I tend to look for shirts in poplin or cotton and with a slight loose or oversized fit. Of course a shirt or a white shirt is not a necessity in any wardrobe but I think.
Care for your shirt
Wash on cold wash and make sure to undo all buttons to avoid ripping
Iron/ steam: If the shirt is in cotton or linen I typically iron it but if its a more delicate material I tend to use my steamer.
Ironing the shirt: Start with the collar, then go over the cuffs (avoid the buttons as they can leave ugly marks.) Then go over the rest of the shirt.
Pro tip: flip it inside out and iron it again for extra crisp
Hang sturdy hanger not those thin plastic things
