How meditation makes me feel good
A while ago I posted about my meditation practise, which I’ve been holding up for little over two years now. I almost cannot believe that I’ve sticked to it for so long. Looking back to the previous year, my routine has changed a little bit and I’m more often meditating for 3-5 minutes these days rather than 10-15 min which was what I used to do then. The reason is just life really, as it usually is.
I think the key reason to why I’ve been able to be consistent with it is how it make me feel. For example, a typical work day morning, I get up wash my face, put on some make up and clothes, have coffee with M and pack my lunch box. I don’t really stop and think much, I’ve probably already tried to solve several number of issues at work or anticipating the day ahead. So, at this point I’m quite worked up. But when I’ve done all the things I need to do I sit down and meditate for just a few minutes and that immediately resets my day and my mood. So, instead of arriving to work already stressed I’ve given myself some time to check in with myself. Here are four more reasons:
Giving myself a little break from doing and an opportunity to look after myself.
Learning about myself. I recently realised that I know myself quite well and that was such a lovely thing to recognise.
Pausing the racing mind. I think most of you know the feeling when thousands of thoughts are roaming the space of your brain. Meditation is a really good way to let them do their thing without getting caught up with your thoughts.
Calms me. During meditation one is usually encouraged to breath slowly and this will tell your body that everything is fine and that there’s nothing to fear.
