Circular monday
This Monday was circular Monday. Circular Monday always falls on the Monday before Black Friday and it is a day and a movement focused on educating about circular consumption instead of linear consumption, which Black Friday has become associated with. Amongst with a huge over consumption behaviour.
It is very easy to participate on this in this movement. On the Circular Monday website they share resources that are free to use for anyone and more importantly the message does not only apply to that Monday but we should think about this every day of the week. I believe that the shift from a linear consumption to a circular one is crucial in order to secure the well being of our planet and all of us who live here and depend on our natural resources. So, here are some easy ways to start for you as a consumer:
Use what you already have
If you need something new, can you rent it or borrow it?
If not try to find it second hand
Mend broken things
I don’t think that it is only up to us as individuals to change the the linear consumption into a circular one. I believe that it has to come from the industry and government as well. I’m happy to see change in the industry I work in, and there are such ambitious goals and a strong will to make a change. We aren’t there yet, so we need to continue to promote this shift because it will require a lot of action and momentum to change the course of the linear economy to a circular.
