Waernet & mindful gift ideas

My best friend Julia and I visited (probably) the tiniest café in Gothenburg, Waernet, at the beginning of November. We squeezed in together with a handful of others and had some fika by the window.

November rushed by and we're already in December so I wanted to share some mindful gift ideas for the holiday season and some tips on how to minimize waste during the gift giving.

Less stress and waste through Christmas

  1. Buy fewer presents. Maybe you can even take someone off your list?

  2. If buying things online, get multiple items shipped together. Also try to be certain before ordering online since sending items back and forth is very unsustainable.

  3. Avoid glitter it releases micro plastic. Maybe you can use fabric instead which can be reused over and over again.

  4. Wrap diagonally. In all honesty, I haven't tried this myself but I heard that this requires less wrapping paper.

Gift ideas for the holiday season

  • Something you baked or made. For example, granola, bars, plum jam or orange marmalade

  • Give time you can spend together with the person. Perhaps movie tickets, theatre tickets, babysitting, museum day, dinner together, or a picnic.

  • Christmas ornaments that you made yourself or found in a second hand shop.

  • Scented soy wax candle or incense.

  • A scarf or hat you’ve knitted.

  • One small luxurious thing.

  • Subscription for a magazine or chocolate, for example.

  • A course either online or physical. Maybe you can go together?

  • An early edition of a classic Christmas story or your favourite book. Julia gifted me A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens last year.

I have collected a few more tips here: 24 Low Impact Gift Ideas

I hope that you holiday season is a peaceful one.
